More than 150 activities, 298 exhibitors from 9 countries and 15 restaurants with 22 menus are the figures of this 21st edition in which the Ribeira Sacra stands out as a special protagonist
Ourense, 02/05 / 2020.- Two countries, a single food and wine destination. The 21st edition of Xantar has opened its doors this morning in Expourense, further strengthening ties of cross-border cooperation between the two areas of the Euroregion. Galicia’s interest in the Portuguese tourist and vice versa, since both destinations are the main issuer of travelers for the other, has been one of the guiding principles of the opening ceremony of the only international gastronomic tourism fair accredited in the Iberian Peninsula.
The opening ceremony was chaired by the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Xunta de Galicia, Román Rodríguez, accompanied by the Portuguese Secretary of State for Tourism, Rita Marques; the president of the Provincial Deputation of Ourense, Manuel Baltar; the Councilor for Tourism of Ourense, Flora Moure; the president of Turismo Porto e Norte, Luis Pedro Martins; the president of the Galician Tourism Cluster, Cesáreo Pardal; and the executive vice president of Expourense, Jorge Pumar.
“Xantar also contributes to positioning Galicia’s oenogastronomic potential internationally, a sector that has become an important engine for the development of the community’s economy,” said the minister during his speech, also adding that “it has great capacity to diversify and deseasonalize our offer. tour”.
In addition to cross-border cooperation and the enhancement of enogastronomy as an economic catalyst, the Ribeira Sacra was the other great protagonist of the day as a way of supporting the candidacy of the Ribeira Sacra for UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Thus, five days begin in which Ourense becomes the epicenter of peninsular enogastronomy and the gastronomic bridge with Latin America, as the presence of professional delegations from countries such as Costa Rica or Peru stands out at the fair.
On this opening day, the XV International Meeting on Diet and Health also started, offering more than 150 food and wine experiences focused on promoting the quality of the agri-food products and the Galician sea and other participating destinations. Among those held today, the Calidade de Galicia Experiences workshop taught by Ourense chef Miguel González, those organized by the Consellería do Mar on artisanal fishing and the Bonito de Burel, those taught by Cociña Ourense or by Rubén Silva, the winner of Masterchef in Portugal.
Among the program of activities, the exhibitors from Porto e Norte took the opportunity to present important events related to tourism and gastronomy such as the Wine Music Valley of Porto or the Festa do Folar de Chaves. The first day was also held today, a certified tasting initiation course taught by the Instituto Galego do Viño. The VII Meeting of Gastronomic and Tourist Bloggers was also held, bringing together 25 bloggers from Galicia, Portugal, Asturias and Castilla y León.
This first day will conclude with the celebration of Sports Night in which the General Secretary for Sports will participate, Ramón Lete, to present the next edition of Sportur Galicia, IV Salon of Sport and Tourism to be held in Expourense.
The 15 Xantar 2020 restaurants also began serving the first menus of this edition today, registering a good level of influx on the first day, some of them with the full lineup. It offers the opportunity to enjoy the gastronomy of different regions of Spain and Portugal through the 15 restaurants that participate in this edition. Illa de Ons (Pontevedra) and Guimaraes (Portugal) are the two great innovations in restoration, in addition to the return of Baixa Limia with its own restaurant.
