Xantar organizes cooking workshops and virtual wine tastings
The International Gastronomic Tourism Fair proposes to travel online to international gastronomic destinations and also to pair Galician wines with tapas made with quality products
Xantar, the International Gastronomic Tourism Fair, has organized a series of online and live training activities that aim to encourage and entertain, through food and gastronomy and from a healthy perspective, the numerous followers of the fair through their social networks (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) in these weeks of confinement.
International cuisine workshops and “riquiñas” tastings commented pairing Galician wines with other quality products are the proposal offered by the show and can be followed live free of charge, upon registration, through the “Zoom” platform to contact directly with the rapporteur; or through Facebook Live! These activities are announced in time for those who dare to cook live with the chefs, have prepared the ingredients to make the recipe.
To organize these activities, Xantar has a wide international network of collaborators, since we cannot forget that it is the only international gastronomic tourism fair accredited by the Government of Spain and that in the last edition, held in February 2020, It had the presence of 9 countries. The 22nd edition of Xantar will be held from February 3 to 7, 2021.
These training actions began already this week with the holding of a workshop on healthy and Hindu cuisine given by Moi Chef and nutritionist Adriana Fernández Vidal from El Taller del Bienestar, a company from Ourense, who explained the secrets of the “Chana Masala”.
The next of these workshops is scheduled for Thursday, May 14 at 7:00 p.m. (Spanish time) and the protagonist will be the flagship product of Portuguese gastronomy, cod. The prestigious Austrian-Portuguese chef Thomas Egger of the Tabua d’aço restaurant in Tabuaço will teach how to prepare “a cod for confinement”. It will have the collaboration of Turismo Porto e Norte and the Escola de Hotelaria e Turismo de Porto.
Portugal is one of the great protagonists in each edition of Xantar since it has participated in this event since the first edition and year after year its presence increases both in number of exhibitors and visitors. This will be the first workshop taught by a Portuguese chef but several more will be organized. The organization of Latin American cooking workshops for chefs who have already participated in the show is also planned.
Another of the activities that Xantar is organizing will be the virtual wine tastings of the five Denomination of Origin of Galicia (Monterrei, Ribeiro, Valdeorras, Ribeira sacra and Rías Baixas). The renowned Galician sommelier, Mercedes González, will invite us on Fridays of the next few weeks to “go for wines” by participating in their “riquiñas tastings” that pair a wine of a denomination with a top made with quality products from Galicia. As the sommelier explains, “Through this activity we will enjoy and discover Galicia through its wines. It is an educational tasting, designed to be enjoyed, without mysteries! Galicians have the habit of going out for tapas and, as it is not possible at the moment, in this tasting we will give some recommendations to accompany the wines ”.
The first of these tastings will take place on Friday, May 15 at 7:00 p.m. and will serve to support the candidacy of the Ribeira Sacra for UNESCO World Heritage Site. Those who want to participate must have on hand a wine from a winery attached to the D.O. Ribeira Sacra. The proposed cover for this activity is an octopus toast with Galician cheese.
The links to register for these activities are published on the Xantar Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Xantar
